It was a disappointing year for the Saints as they reached the NFC Championship in 2006. The issue with the Saints was their defense as they gave up an average of 245 passing per game ranking 30th in the league. They Saints addressed it in the offseason drafting Sedrick Ellis, acquiring free agent linebacker Jonathon Vilma and cornerback Aaron Glenn. Oddsmakers have set the regular season win projection for the New Orleans Saints at 8 ½ wins. Schedule The Saints play in the NFC South and that means two games with Tampa Bay, Atlanta and Carolina. The NFC South plays the NFC North and AFC West this season and that brings road games at Denver. They are going to have to beat 3 of the 8 weaker teams from those divisions on the road as they travel to Oakland, Chicago and Detroit. As a third place team in the NFC South they must play the two other second place NFC teams and that means a road game at Washington and hosting San Francisco. They finished the year 4-12 and near the bottom in passing, scoring and red zone efficiency. The quarterback position was unstable with Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens not playing well. The team invested a great deal of money on free agent acquisitions to improve their offensive line and defense. Oddsmakers have set the NY Jets season win total at 7 ½ wins. When you handicap season win totals you must, I mean must look at the schedule. Schedule The Jets play in the AFC East with two games home and away against New England, Buffalo and Miami. The Jets went 2-4 against the division last year sweeping Miami. It might be a little tougher pulling the sweep against Miami this season but they could win at home against Buffalo. They play all the teams from the NFC West this season but got a little unlucky having to face the worst team from that division the 49'ers on the road. Starting quarterback Marc Bulger was a sitting duck in the pocket and it led to an injury-plagued season in 2007. The Rams have the talent to improve on a 3-13 record a year ago. Oddsmakers have set the Rams season win total at 6 ½ games. When you handicap season win totals you must, I mean must look at the schedule. Schedule The Rams have a difficult schedule in 2008. They face all the teams from the NFC East, which is the toughest in pro football. Two of those games are at home to Dallas and the NY Giants. With a retiring Strahan, the Rams could be competitive at home against the Giants. But the rest of the home games are winnable games and this Rams squad could go 6-2 this year at home if healthy. Now we would need St Louis to capture 1 road game on the season if they are to surpass 6 ½ wins. When you handicap season win totals you must, I mean must look at the schedule. Schedule: Playing in the AFC West the Chiefs have 2 games against San Diego, Oakland and Denver. Oakland will improve this season and Denver is under pressure to win after undergoing their first losing season under Mike Shanahan last season. They wont win a game against the Chargers this season. The Chiefs will be fortunate to win 1 game in 6 games against their division. To cash for over players they would need to go 5-5 against the rest of their schedule. They play the NFC South this season but host the top 2 teams in the division in Tampa Bay and New Orleans and travel to the weaker teams in Carolina and Atlanta. Ideally for over players you would want to host the weaker teams making it easier for victories.
